The Content Collection tool allows users to batch download all or some course files to a computer. Backing up course documents will be much easier because of this tool.
I believe that the Course Files feature also affects uploading files.
Course Files is like a file manager tool. Any files that an instructor embeds in a course live in the Course Files area. If you need to link to that same file again from a different area of the course, you can just tell Blackboard, "Here, link to this file I've already uploaded."
The next question is whether these Course Files are really just visible within the individual course, or whether an instructor can access ALL Course Files from ALL of his/her courses.
Another wrinkle, and a GOOD thing: "Changes to an item stored in Course Files are reflected in all instances where it is linked."
For example: if you have Week1.ppt in your course and need to update the file, do so on your computer. Then upload Week1.ppt again into your course. The old one will be overwritten, and any links that point to the file will automatically show the updated content.
