Images and Other Stuff
None of the images, simulations, etc. are in SCI201. The placeholders are there and the html links are there, but no images. I checked SOC101 and most, but not all images, audio, etc. were present. I will spot check 15-20 courses today and report back. Given that these two courses are memory intensive, I have to wonder if the size of the import file plays a role.

Good catch, B. Check the Course Files list to see if the files made it into the course. In the Control Panel, find the Courses heading and click the double arrow button to the right it. You'll see a list of files and folders. If the media files made it in the restore, then maybe they just need to be re-embedded into the content items.
ReplyDeleteI checked a couple of lectures in M15HIS300. They are OK.
ReplyDeleteCheck the lectures in M15GEO101, which is another very large course.
I check the file list and there are no embedded image files in Weeks 1 and 2. Furthermore, the "embedded" folder in Week 3 and beyond were not in Weeks 1 and 2. I created the "embedded" folder and uploaded the missing files, but that did not restore them to appropriate locations in the lecture.
ReplyDeleteI uploaded the image in the Week 1 lecture; however, the 'align="right" or "left" code aligns the image right or left, but does not cause the text to flow evenly around the image. I created a right-aligned table and inserted the image in the table. Success!!! But, at a substantial cost of time. If I had to do this for every missing or misaligned image, it would take me hours per course to do. I don't usually use this word, but YIKES!
Very interesting.
ReplyDeleteRE putting the images back into the Course Files area, I'm not surprised that just uploading them there didn't put them back into the appropriate content area. It strikes me as a natural second step that you need to re-embed the item in the content area.
RE fixing the layout of text and images, I believe we're going to have to live with some lousy formatting for the time being. In my opinion it will be a waste of the cleanup money to work on text-image layout details this first time through.
What's more important is to ensure the media content is is visible to students. The contractors will need to compare the new courses in 9 with the originals in 7 in order to see what ought to be present, access the files, and get them in place in the new courses.
RE text flowing around objects, look at one of the lectures in HIS300. The wrapping works in 9 the same way it looks in 7 (at least in my browser, Firefox 3.something).
It might be a good task for Lauren to determine what code attributes will allow text to flow around images and look OK in both major browsers. She could start with HIS300 and try that code in other courses.
The code is:
ReplyDeletestyle="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 10px"
style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 10px"
style="FLOAT: center; MARGIN: 10px"
