- Click each link in Course Content of each course, including:
- links to external websites
- links to embedded files (make sure they download/open)
- links to attached files if any are still floating around
- Check a graded discussion forum to make sure the grading works
- Test both a test and an assignment from the student's perspective
- Look for "invalid HTML" warnings in content areas
- Check for properly enabled Course Tools (Control Panel > Customize > Tool Availability > all needed tools)
- Fix course titles for any unnamed courses
- Add Course Home module to each master page (the Course Modulator building block will automate some of this)

If announcements were included in the migration, check to see if they truly are visible to students. This will involve enrolling a student account into each course (or temporarily changing the co_admin account to student status, which is much easier.)
ReplyDeleteNorth Dakota State University reported the following:
"We just upgraded...In all of the courses which were copied from the old system to the new which we've looked at so far, any announcements instructors had posted previously are now listed as "Unavailable". The instructor sees all of the announcements with Edit Mode: On, but they are not available to students. We've tried everything we can think of to make these announcements available again, but with no success. We've changed the dates, changed the status to permanent, made changes to the announcement text and the announcement title - nothing has worked. So far, the only way we can see that an instructor could reuse an announcement is to copy/paste the previous announcement text into a new announcement. I have a feeling we'll have a fair number of instructors thinking students can see these announcements because they see them - they may never notice the announcements aren't available."
Should we consider adding a Discussions link to the course menu? The Communications area is gone. The DB link is under Course Tools, and the Course Tools page can be pretty full when all the options are present. What do you think?
ReplyDeleteYes... I began adding it to some courses in BB7.
